Connect an element

In order to make an element active, you must form a connection between it and the network. Connections are made between element ports, in effect wiring the elements together. Most elements have two or three ports, depending on the type of element. [More details]

To connect an element

Follow these steps to connect an element:

  1. Position your cursor over one of the element's ports, also called connection interfaces. [Show me]
The port lights up a green color.

  2. Click once and release, and the green light goes out. When you next move the cursor, a red line will trail it, indicating a connection is going to be made. [Show me]

  3. Move the cursor to another element, and position it above a port you want to connect to.
The red line will trail the cursor as you move it. When the cursor is positioned correctly above the element's port, that port will light up a green color. [Show me]

  4. Click once and release, and a blue line will appear showing the connection between the element ports. [Show me]

Notes:

1) Attempting to make an invalid connection between elements returns a message explaining why it's invalid.

2) The "trusted" interface on a firewall must be set up before you can submit the design for validation.
