Billing of Terraspring Services

Billing for Terraspring Services is calculated and applied depending on the service offering you've subscribed to and other criteria. See the sections below for details on how this varies.

Computing Services (SU charges)

Computing Services is billed based on actual hourly usage of each device within a given infrastructure. Each device in a customer's infrastructure is assigned an SU consumption rate.

The SU consumption rate, which varies based on the type of device and the capabilities of each device, is a measure of the amount of Terraspring services delivered through a device over a period of time. For example, a four processor Sun server may consume 30 SUs/hour, while a Cisco Pix firewall may consume 8 SUs/hour.

An SU is assigned an hourly rate, for example, $0.10/SU, that varies depending on the service level at which the device is used, for example Basic Service as opposed to Flex Service.

Using the previous examples, a customer would be billed $3.00 for each hour that such a Sun server is used in the Flex Service (1 Sun @ 30 SU/hour x 1 hour x $0.10/SU = $3.00/hour).

Network Services

Network billing for Internet connectivity is based on the industry standard 95th percentile of your sustained bandwidth consumption. This means that every five minutes, Terraspring measures your bandwidth consumption. At the end of the month, we sort the measurement samples from highest to lowest, and throw away the top 5% of measurement samples. Your bill is then calculated based on your usage at this 95th percentile consumption rate. Billing for private network connectivity is currently available at a fixed monthly charge. Secure infrastructure access is currently free of charge. Network support services are available for an additional charge.

Storage Services

Disk storage is pay-for-use and based on monthly average of actual disk space usage across the infrastructure. Backup is charged based on a volume size and a set number of restores is included with the purchase of backup services. Additional restores are charged based on complexity.
