The procedure for building an infrastructure varies depending on the complexity, but a basic infrastructure of relatively few elements is simple to build and can be up and running in a reasonably short amount of time. |
Subnets (internal and external/Internet) can connect to hardware (server group, load balancer, firewall, and backhaul)
Hardware can connect to subnets
Subnets cannot connect to other subnets
Hardware cannot connect to other hardware
For typical element connections, see the infrastructure building best practices.
Follow these steps to build a basic infrastructure:
In the Main
Page's Infrastructure Display Area,
click [New]. [Show
me]
The Editor opens. The center area of the Editor is the work, or display,
area.
From the Element Palette at the left-hand side of the Editor, click and then drag an element (icon) to the work area. [Show me the palette]
Repeat Step 2 as needed to add the different types and numbers of elements you want in the infrastructure.
Position the elements adjacent to each other in a logical pattern that makes them easy to connect.
Connect each element to an incoming and outgoing interface observing the element connection rules.
Configure each element so that it has the capacity and settings you want.
As you build, periodically check the Infrastructure Details, at the left-hand side of the Editor, to see the quantity of Service Units (SUs) that your design consumes. If you exceed your purchased service units, the indicator turns red.
Complete the Infrastructure Details fields with the following information:
Name the infrastructure a unique and meaningful name that follows the Gateway DNS naming conventions (mandatory)
Select a Data Center from the dropdown list choices (mandatory)
Enter Notes for your information or record, as needed
From the Editor
Option Buttons at the left-hand side of the Editor, click [File]
and then [Save] to save the infrastructure.
[Show me the buttons]
Once you save the infrastructure, it enters the Design state.
Click [Submit] to submit the design to Grid Operations for validation, and a message asks you to verify the action. [Show me the button]
Click [OK] to verify submission, and the Submission dialog appears. [Show me]
Click the Activate
radio button, complete the Start date
and End date information using
each calendar widget, and then click [OK].
At this point, the infrastructure changes from Design state to Pending
state.
Click [Print] to print a copy of the design for your record.
