Creating a software image, also called taking a snapshot, can be used to capture an image of the software and configuration settings of a machine so that it can be reproduced. The software image is then available for use in recovery situations or to clone other machines. For example, create a web server software image and apply the image to another server to create a clone. |
Follow these steps to create a software image snapshot:
Shut the server down; this is optional, but is recommended to avoid potential corruption of the image with open files, etc.
Open the infrastructure you want to create the image for in the Editor.
Right-click the
server or server group, and then select Snapshot
Image from the right-click menu. [Show me]
The Snapshot Image dialog appears.
[Show me]
Complete the following fields on the dialog screen to build the boot image to the desired specification:
Name - Enter a unique image name, up to 30 characters long.
Description - Enter a brief description of the image, up to 255 characters long.
Hardware Compatibility - Click Current Architecture to indicate the software image should be tied to particular hardware architecture, or click Any Architecture to indicate that any architecture is allowed at the time of deployment.
Server - Select the server to be used to create the image from the drop-down list.
Disk -Select the disk volume to be used to create the image from the drop-down list.
Click [OK] to validate the information and submit the request, or click Cancel to abort. Once the image is created, it is available for deployment on any server in the account.
Call Grid Operations to reboot the server if necessary.
