Configure a Subnet

Subnet/Network Connection - This icon represents a virtual local area network (VLAN) within the infrastructure. Grid Operations assigns the IP addresses during activation. All IP addresses allocated are visible internally only.

The default size is 1024 IP addresses per subnet. If you need more than 1024 IP addresses on a subnet, then Grid Operations must restart all devices on that subnet to initialize the additional addresses.

Note: The "trusted" interface must be set up before you can submit the infrastructure design for validation.

To configure a subnet

Follow these steps to configure a subnet:

  1. Open the infrastructure that contains the subnet in the Editor.

  2. Make any wiring connections as needed.

  3. Right-click on the subnet icon, select Configure, and the Configure Subnet dialog appears.

  4. Complete the fields as needed.

  5. Give the subnet a unique name if you want (this must be done during design). If no name is specified, default names are given, for example Subnet1, Subnet2, to each subsequent element added.
The Subnet IP is set upon activation. The Subnet mask (the net mask that will be applied to elements on this subnet) is also set upon activation.

  6. Select Yes or No to indicate whether you want NAS (Network Attached Storage). The NAS IP address is assigned upon activation.

  7. Enter any notes or comments in the Notes field.

  8. Click [OK] to save your changes.

  9. Click [Submit] to commit your changes before you leave the Editor.
